History of The Friendly Baptist Church (FBC)
In 1965, The Friendly Baptist Church was organized by three families, husband and wife teams and had a membership of six.
In 1970, Albert L. Sutton, Sr. was called to Pastor of FBC. He and his faithful and dedicated wife, Mrs. Betty Harper-Sutton was blessed with a congregation of 25 members. As God continued to bless FBC, church membership grew. Under the leadership of Pastor Sutton, FBC brought a place on Nelson Ave., BX, NY and the membership grew to 670.
In 1972, FBC started the FBC Daycare Center with one child. Currently, FBC Daycare averages 120 children during the school year and have a staff count of 25.
In 1978, Pastor Sutton and congregation purchased a burned out supermarket on Ogden Avenue, BX, NY. They worked earnestly and raised $400,000 to renovate the building. God continued to bless and membership grew to 2,500.
In 2001, Pastor Sutton, with God's help, continued to build and added a 2nd floor to the church with eleven rooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 handicap bathroom and a dining room that seats 260 people. It also has a commercial kitchen and an elevator was added for easier access.
In 2008, FBC built a 33 family apartment building on Nelson Avenue in the Bronx, and named it Friendly Tower and is currently working on a new development.
